30 Days of Hymns, the Sacred Triad, the Morrigan #2: Blood

Hail to thee,
Bloodied Sovereign
Wind-Waked Warrior
standing tall
with knees bloodied
feet deep in the mud
to the blood I sing your praises
to the tune of my own heart’s beat
dancing out a prelude to war
to the life that flows within me
I look to find your face written
in the currents of deep red rivers
in blood we begin
and in blood we end
in the movement, I look for life
in the stillness, I see the end
through the muck
and the tears
and the sweat
and the blood
I watch you march onwards
ever your mind on the prize
in blood, as in earth
movement is life
to stop is to die
standing tall
walking far
leading your troops onward
hail to you,
Wind-Waked Sovereign
Bloodied Warrior
the drummer
to my own heart’s
beat

30 Days of Hymns, the Morrigan #1: Soil

Praise be upon thee,
lady of the darkened earth
dirt-caked hands
blood-smeared face
life and death
held in your arms
teach me what it is to be
a child of the earth
soil in my blood
rocks in my bones
let me dig in loamy flesh
let me find sparks of new life
let me grow anew in the land
let me bury my dead
let the soil expand, soaking up life-giving rain
let it dry
and starve us out
let us learn the story
of earth betrayed
let us know
the truth of the soil
let us be one
with the cycle
Praise be upon you,
Earthen Queen
dirt-caked face
blood-smeared hands
all the world within your arms
show us what it is to be
of the earth.
